The need for Power II

empower 7

That we need power is not what we can overstate. Powerless Christians do not carry weight in the kingdom.(Gifting without power cannot make impact or go far – singing, teaching, pastors etc.…) We shall continue with why we need power;

  1. Power is needed to declare his name/greatness/his love/his terribleness; It is by God’s power that Israelites were taken out of Egypt, likewise God’s power is needed to deliver from any oppressive or obsessive  force operating in your life. The power is also required to declare his love by witnessing Christ unto all!

Rom:9:17: For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.

Act:1:8: But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

  1. Divine power is required to subdue other powers that be. There are many other powers that the devil uses to harass an un-empowered or disempowered Christian, the divine power of God is needed to overpower or subdue them.God brought the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt where they are being oppressed by the power of Pharaoh through his own mighty power.

De:9:29: Yet they are thy people and thine inheritance, which thou broughtest out by thy mighty power and by thy stretched out arm. Ge:31:29: It is in the power of my hand to do you hurt: but the God of your father spake unto me yesternight, saying, Take thou heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.

  1. Power is needed to get wealth and other good things available in Christ (redemptive power). Many people deploy fetish power to get wealth but silver and gold belong to our God whoever submits to him has the power to get them. De:8:18: But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.   Eph: 3:20: Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.

The source of this power is God, give your life to Jesus Christ and get it through the infilling of the Holy spirit Acts 1:8.

Divine empowerment: The need for Power.

empower 2

The month has been declared by God as the month of empowerment for us. Last week we considered the fact that God is the source of Divine Power and that we need to know him and be filled with the Holy Spirit to get the power. Our prayer this month is that God will make us carrier of his power in Jesus name.

Today we shall be looking at why we need power. Power is required to serve God , stand for God and continue in faith:

There are many things many of us would have loved to do more for God and in God, but because of our human limitation we are unable: service, punctuality, evangelism, prayer, fasting, keep vigil, study..etc

Case study: Life of Peter and other disciples without power and with power

  1. Without power Peter denied Christ: Joh:18:15:

John:18:17: Then saith the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Art not thou also one of this man’s disciples? He saith, I am not.

Jonh:18:25: And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not.

John:18:26: One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him?

John:18:27: Peter then denied again: and immediately the cock crew.

Without Power the disciples could not watch and pray with Christ in Gethsemane.

The power to pray is given by the Holy Spirit, the bible says we do not know how to pray as we ought but the spirit of God helps our infirmities (Romans 8:26)

M’t:26:40: And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?

M’t:26:41: Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

M’t:26:42: He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.

M’t:26:43: And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy.

  1. When there was no power, Peter returned to Fishing yet he could not do anything/much. The power we need to move on in faith is supplied by God himself through the Holy Spirit.

John 21: 2-3, 6

John:21:2: There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples.

John:21:3: Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing.

Their thought would have been what are they waiting for when their source of inspiration/power has gone?,  but when Christ came into the scene (the Power himself), they became empowered to catch a net breaking fish.

John:21:6: And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.

Lack of Power more often leads to leaving purpose for the ‘supposed’. You settle for what you can do which may not be productive or less productive instead of what God can help you to do through his power. Peter and other disciples ought to be fishers of men but they settled for fishing after the master had left.

At Pentecost the power was released through the comforter which Christ himself promised then the power to serve and witness came!

Ac:2:2: And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.                                                                                                                              Ac:2:3: And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. Ac:2:4: And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Ac:2:14: But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:-Boldness came. After this experience Peter did a lot of exploits for the Lord.

Prayer Points

Divine Empowerment-The Source is God!

empower 7

We thank God for bringing us into the month of February and we appreciate him for what he has done in our lives in the month of January, The spirit of excellence will not depart from our lives in Jesus name. This month we shall be believing God for Divine Empowerment. In any realm – Physical, Spiritual, career, academic, financial, business etc, we need divine power to make things happen as our physical power and might cannot get us anywhere. God himself will empower us in Jesus name.

We shall be looking at today’s message under 3 headings

  1. The Source of Divine Power is God

Ex:9:16: And in very deed for this cause have I raised thee up, for to shew in thee my power; and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth.

Ex:15:6: Thy right hand, O LORD, is become glorious in power: thy right hand, O LORD, hath dashed in pieces the enemy.

M’t:6:13: And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

  1. To taste of this power, it is important we know God through His Christ

Da:11:32: And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.

Ph’p:3:10: That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

1Co:1:24: But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

Romans 1:16: For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

  1. We tap into Divine Power through the infilling of the Holy Spirit.

The power to conceive Christ (the power of God himself) was made available through the Holy Spirit: Lu:1:35: And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

1Co:1:24: But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

Ro:1:16: For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Christ reiterated (emphasized the same process) in Acts1:6-8 when the question as to when the kingdom will be restored to Israel was raised.

Ac:1:6: When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

Ac:1:7: And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

Ac:1:8: But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Close:

Accept Christ today, partake of the infilling of the Holy Spirit and be loaded with power.

Prayers:

My God empower me to do exploit in all areas of my life in Jesus name!

Grace for Excellence

Grace for Excellence.jpg 2
Grace is free but not irrationally so as many presume. After all, Christ paid for it. We all have a part to play as in the following scriptures; Romans 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 6:2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Appropriation of grace for life of excellence starts with identification with Christ and it is sustained through life of Purity. Proverbs 22:11; He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.
Having given our life to Christ by his grace, the scripture above stresses the fact that continuous life of purity will help us to excel by his grace.
As we live for Christ this year may we be endowed with the GRACE to excel through his mercy and favor in Jesus name.

We cannot continue in SIN and expect the grace to abound, give your life to Christ today and continue to live by his grace!
